Letter of the President of U.A.E. – February 2020
Dear members of U.A.E.,
Dear Colleagues,
Dear Friends,
Now that we are well into 2020, I would like to update you on the life and activities of our Association.
First of all, I would remind you of the conference which took place on 22 November 2019 in Luxembourg on “Acquisition and management of real estate property in Europe”, followed by the General Assembly of U.A.E. For a brief summary, see here.
On 23 November 2019, at the meeting of the Executive Committee of U.A.E., Pedro de GOUVEIA e MELO was nominated as the incoming President of the Association. He will take office right after the next General Assembly of Paris in November 2020.
At the same time, one third of the Executive Committee was re-elected. I rely on every single member of the Committee, indeed together with every other member of U.A.E., so that the objectives of the Association are achieved.
With regard to the activities of U.A.E. for 2020, I would mention some important events which are scheduled (some of them have already taken place).
1) First, I am glad to inform you that, given its success in 2018 and 2019, the “Young Lawyer Scholarship” is confirmed.
I would remind you of the principle on which the “Scholarship” is based: there is a Committee appointed by the Bureau of U.A.E. for the study of the essays, which choses among the essays submitted those which they consider to be the best. The graduate(s), inter alia, will be invited to present her/his (their) work at the 2020.
Annual Congress, and will be offered membership of the Association for the current year (2020) and for the following year (2021).
The “Scholarship” is strictly connected to the subject of our 2020 Annual Congress, “A European Union of Justice”.
The Congress, which is the main academic event of U.A.E., will take place on 19 June 2020 in Berlin. Further details will follow. In the meantime, please save the date!
2) From 27 November 2019 to 8 January 2020 in Padua, the “Padova and Veneto” Delegation organised a short course of criminal tax law on “The legislative decree 74/2000, twenty years after its introduction, in view of the modifications of the legislative decree of 26 October 2019, nr. 124”.
3) On 24 January 2020, on the occasion of the international “Day of the endangered Lawyer”, I sent an official letter to the President of the Pakistan Bar Council, as evidence of support and friendship to our colleagues in Pakistan.
4) On 31 January 2020, the “Tax law” Commission and the “Bari and Puglia” Delegation organised a conference on “Tax disputes: criminal and tax aspects in light of tax decree 2020. European experiences compared”, which took place in the beautiful city of Lecce.
5) Further to it being recognised by the competent Italian authorities as an organization entitled to deliver courses in Italy to become a lawyer “specialised” in European Union law, U.A.E. has cooperated with the University of Milan in organising a course of 200 hours for the specialisation in European Union law.
This two-year course started on 30 October 2019 in Milan with an introductory lecture on “The specialist lawyer in European Union law”. From 6 February to 27 April 2020 there is scheduled a module on “Judicial protection”. The second year of the course will start in October 2020. For further details, see here.
6) On 20 March 2020, the “Provence-Alps-Côte d’Azur-Liguria-Mediterranean” supranational Delegation will hold a conference in Marseille on “Evolution of medical responsibility in the framework of sustainable economy in Europe”. For further details and registration, see here.
7) U.A.E. – through its “Budapest and Hungary” Delegation – has cooperated with the Budapest Bar Association and the International Association of Lawyers (U.I.A.) in organising a conference in Budapest titled “Budapest international legal day 2020”, which will take place on 3 April 2020. For further details and registration, see here.
8) On 21 and 22 May 2020, the “Antitrust” Commission will hold its XIV conference of Treviso on “Antitrust between EU law and national law”. The complete programme will be released shortly on our Agenda.
In addition, all the other U.A.E. regional Delegations and Commissions are always active and for this reason, I am persuaded that for 2020, all of them will organise, as usual, academic events of a high level.
The year 2020 therefore promises to be really dynamic.
My wish is for many other colleagues all over Europe to join us at U.A.E.: our doors are open!
Under these auspices, I am pleased to send you all, dear friends, my kindest regards.
Gabriele DONÀ
President of U.A.E.
